| Okayyy, the gloves are off......
Miller or Smith.....
Miller, Positives....
Has good speed over 40, 50 metres.
More than useful goal kicker.
Has good footwork, can be elusive.
Versatile, could probably fill 2 or 3 positions if the need arises during a game.
Let's not forget, only 22, you would hope still improvement in him at that age.
Negatives....
Passing game leaves a lot to be desired.
Kicking game the same as above.
Not the best defender, can look weak one on one.
Smith, Positives....
When on song, excellent passer of the ball
Short kicking game can be effective.
Lots of experience.
Negatives....
No pace whatsoever.
Long kicking game generally poor.
Can go missing at times, just doesn't stamp his authority on a game enough.
Rarely done it consistently over here. He was poor at Wigan until he got injured. Had one good consistent season for us in 2012, rest of the time he has been very hit and miss, including his time at Salford.
So who would you choose?

| We have all seen what Smith can do and he can open sides up and I have been one of Millers biggest critics while at stand off but last night at scrum half having to weave the cloth proved what he is capable of and he did put some good tackles in so for me it would have to be Miller at 7 next game with Godinet at 6.

You are loading against Smith there.
Saying "When on song, excellent passer of the ball"
If you are comparing properly it should be just "excellent passer of the ball."
You can say he is inconsistent in the negatives......but that applies to Miller too.
When both at their best I prefer Smith, BUT we need Miller's running game and after last night his goal kicking too.

| For me there is no question it’s Smith and I’m not a big fan.
Miller is a HB who can’t pass well enough often enough. His decision making is often poor and his kicking game limited.
He is fast and he can step well but I could find you a dozen of those in the BARLA leagues.
This wouldn’t be so bad if he were British but this is a player who’s been shipped to these shores and is no better than the lad we had from Leeds Academy/Dewsbury a few years back - plays in the Championship now.
Millers best quality is that he is a trier but then so am I and you wouldn’t want me at 7!
Smith is a fair weather player and needs the team to perform before he can. He’s not a self confident match winner like Brough and does not pocess the leadership qualities of an Andy Gregory and he’s cart ho slow. However his passing game is still sublime when the team is functioning and his decision making well above the rest when we are on top. He needs a foil and Locke may hopefully be it. If he can build up an understanding with Smith like Sykes had then watch us go.

I'm not deliberately loading against Smith! Just calling it as I see it, and as I see both players operating on the field. Yes of course Miller can be inconsistent, but i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he's still quite young and inexperienced, Smith isn't, and I don't see him getting better at 30 years of age. That was the point of the post, for people to choose, then maybe add their reasons as to why one should be playing and the other not, if you can come up with more positives for Smith than Miller, then state your case for him and the reasons why! Sorry, you can't have both, if Smith returns, where is Miller going to play??

I agree with most of what you say But, I think Smith has failed to deliver more often than not, and yes you can argue he needs a certain type of player next to him, and having runners on and off the ball, but I just think the positives I've given for Miller outweigh the ones' for Smith, and I think he should be given an extended run in the team next to Godinet.

| I know it's a forum but it matters not a jot what we think.
BS will pick the best option and it looks like Miller/ Godinet for a while.
Cant see any point in changing. Miller had his best game and he has had some shockers, so has T.Smith and Godinet had taken forever to even get a run in the side.
The problem is, none of them are English and while our main objective is Super League survival, there has to be an eye on the future.
Vasty is right in saying there has to be a 7 in the BARLA leagues.
I sat with my pals from Hull last night and when coach at FC, BS had an open day and produced players who eventually went on to play for GB and even manage GB (Macnamara from Skirlaugh). Perhaps next is the scouting set up.
After all that waffle, Miller/ Godinet for me, pace every time.

Are you referring to yourself waffling as you put it, or me?! If it maters not a jot what anyone thinks, why have a forum then?! What's the point of being on here? If you can post a more interesting topic, then go ahead........as for BS picking the best option, that would be Smith and Godinet as that was who he selected last night, until Smith pulled out? Now possibly, just possibly, if Smith had played last night we may not have won, but that's all hypothetical and probably meaningless waffle anyway. Can you name these no 7's in the BARLA leagues then? Of course there are always gems to be found in the lower leagues and amateur game, but until they actually play in Super League, we will never know if they are as good as guys like Miller, because he actually has played at this level hasn't he. There must be a reason why certain players are overlooked, or not spotted in the first place, and yes it would make a lot more sense than getting a guy from overseas, not to mention the future hopefully playing for England/GB etc, but like I've said, there must be valid reasons why these players aren't plucked from our shores. It's an argument that has gone on for years, about bringing over low quality overseas players, and I agree to a certain extent, but sometimes you get gems from there too, people like Demetriou, Brad Davis, although he only really played at the top level for Cas, they wouldn't have got anywhere near an NRL side back home. Enough waffling I just thought it was interesting to see how many would choose Miller now, because over the last few weeks, I think he's gone up in a lot of people's estimation, including mine.

| Don't be so sensitive Widmoggy, it's me who was waffling.
As I don't have 20000 posts to my name, when I do post, the next post normally just overlooks it so I must be a boring old git.
I tired to get a bite and succceded!
Wakey have always had a weakness in the scouting area. I have over 30 years in amateur RL and have witnessed the highs and lows of their interest.
There used to be a scout and everyone in the amateur game knew the club that was preferred in Wakefield, the rest didn't get much of a look in.
Thanks for answering! Not everyone has the same opinion and I respect others even if not agreeing.
I was aware Miller was second fiddle to Smith but glad, like most, that he got a chance to shine for one.
We have a strong amateur area and long term, should be able to produce "local players for local people".
Up the trin

| If Tim Smith would have played last night I reckon he would have had a decent 2nd half. Because for the 1st time in months we had a pack that was breaking the first tackle & putting their defence on the back foot, especially when Ellis went off. This would have been a good platform for Smith to move the ball wherever he wanted. However Miller had his best game for us in a Wakey shirt & was my motm.
