| A concept for selection i don't mind but it [Yorks/Lancs makes us look small time.
This should have been a fixture in the 60's and maybe it may have been something worth doing back then, now, nah.
Some other ideas from my basic West v East to something else that is just as inclusive.
I don't even see myself as Lancastrian regardless of what some people say about our old boundry.
I was born in Cheshire, raised in Gtr Manchester, support a team in Cheshire, live in Hertfordshire. Lancashire doesn't even feature for me.

It is a good point what with us now having teams in Chesire , merseyside , manchester etc. but there is certainly a calling for the concept because the cross pennine rivalry is definitely there for all to see. it would be a high intensity game played with passion and im pretty sure it would mean something to each clubs respective fans. as oppose to the dull pointless game we witnessed last night.

| Doesn't State of Origin make RL seem small time as well?
What about Western Australia? South Australia? Northern Territory? Tasmania? Victoria?

| The Lancs Yorks thing has been done to death.
In the last 20odd years or so, we've had
the mid 80's. Teams pulled out their players with lightning speed.
We had a go at it 2002 ish (and it was BENT).
The 3 point code (used to) have a Probables v Possibles game, but again, I can see clubs pulling their players out at an alarming rate, if we ever took the context up.

| It as a massive following and is in the running in to be the No.1 game in that country, i wouldn't be surprised if it did extend in a couple of decades. I think i know what angle you're coming at too, playing to their strengths, to the Aussie 'Heartlands' and thinking sod the rest, this is the area it's strong in so this is how we'll play it.
To apply the exact same strategy in this country is indeed Lancs v Yorks but the difference in this country is the exposure.
It's nowhere near as big a game in this country and we can't afford to strengthen the stereotype of the working mans northern sport played along the M62.
Granted the majority of the people playing and supporting are from the M62 corridor but if we are to create a 'rep' game we need to grab those outside the area, it's better long term thinking, even if it only ever results in more amateurs taking it up that never look like making it professional, and loosely support a 'rep' side.

| Maybe they could just rebrand the teams, instead of calling them Lancashire and Yorkshire call them Oxford and Cambridge ?

| Maybe they could call them Harvard and Yale and get some American money.
It's still parochial, saying that, that's what we do best isn't it?

| Its parochial but the difference is people aren't embarrassed of being associated with Oxford and Cambridge the way they are of being from Lancashire or Yorkshire.
