It's going to be a long painful slog of a season, innit? To put it in a historic context I had a little look at Rovers' worst ever seasons.

It could be argued that the fact we're in the top flight means this can't possibly be the worst ever, but if we triple our league points tally over the remaining two thirds of the season, or something similar, it'll up (or maybe down) there.

1935-36 was bad, as we trailed in 28th of 30 (and Hull were champions, just to add salt), but the team picked up 21 points from 38 games. More than half a point per game.
1988-1989 wasn't fabulous, especially so soon after a period that was. But it was in a 14 team top division and Rovers still managed half a point per game.
1953-1954 looks like the standout candidate. 29th of 30, and just 12 points from 36 games.

With three points from 8 games, we're tracking a little ahead of '53-'54. Can we get to 10 or 12 points, by the split and perhaps avoid a first wooden spoon since '92-'93?

Webster seems to be getting better, if still uneven performances out the team, so I think yes... Maybe.

You went into this season with your weakest squad in years. You were a little unlucky yesterday but Rovers and especially Mr Hudgell are reaping the fruits of some appalling recruitment. Think you will finish bottom and lose a couple of middle eights games but will be safe come relegation.

Interesting that our "worst SL squad ever" got within 2 points of your "nailed on top 4" team without many of our key players. Applying logic, do you agree that you may be joining us in the middle 8's?

It isn't the strongest squad by any stretch, but there's been more to it than that. Preseason preparation looks to have been suboptimal and I think we're still catching up.

Plus the spine of the team on which we pinned our hopes for 7th or 8th was Sio, Campese, Kelly, Clarkson (I guess) and Lunt. 1, 6, 7, 13 and 9.
By the time we won a game it was Cockayne, Blair, Marsh, Allgood and Lawler iirc. 18, 11, 22, 10 and 24.

Some self-inflicted wounds, no doubt but that Campese [iand[/i Lunt would be available for selection so briefly, [iand[/i that the mercurial Albert Kelly of 2015 would be replaced by the mediocre despondent-looking 2016 version... Well that was worst case. Or best case from the West Hull Schadenfreude Society's POV.

Not despondant at all I was worried before Fridays game but I am a lot happier having had a day to watch the game again & reflect on it. Yes a win would have been better & the fact that we could not hold on for a win this time was disapointing. I am very proud of the team & happy with the effort & as long as we can get near to that performance we will do OK. I can only see the side getting better. The result was lest than a try between the two sides on another day the odd descision could drop in our favour & its a diferent game. We will get beat by worse sides than FC & beat better. The next two games will give us a better idea of what to expect for the rest of the season. All in all happier than I was before the game.
